Stirring it Up: 163/365

I'm currently working The Artist's Way for the third time in ten years.  I hope now to complete the twelve week course, having had this SG 365 project as practice and another form of discipline.  I'm on week two of writing my daily pages, doing the tasks and taking my inner artist on Artist Dates.

It's another way to grow and nurture myself, though I have found it to "stir" some things up.  Some of it good, some stuff I'd rather forget. But then the other alternative is quitting for the third time, finding the payoff in not achieving or creating more comfortable and safe, painfully watching others produce while I sit back and admire (or judge) their art rather than doing the work myself.

Luckily, Julia is familiar with this flood of emotions and week two is called, "Going Sane," though after week one, you may feel like you are going crazy.  She is also covering who we need to surround ourselves with and how to recognize the people in our lives whom aren't supportive, making me even more grateful for everyone that supports me here. <3

Some examples of what Julia Cameron covers:
  • Protect the artist child within
  • Acknowledge that you are an artist
  • Lose the fear of being wrong
  • Don't judge yourself, allow yourself to make mistakes
  • Go slow -- it isn't a competition, and there's no deadline
  • Affirmations: "I am a billiant & prolific __________."
  • Blurts - subconscious negative responses -- turn them into positive affirmations
  • Also - creative affirmations, i.e., "I am a channel for God's creativity, and my work comes to good," etc. (even agnostics can work this process)

  1. I'm thinking I need to re-start this as well. I got through week 6 last time.

  4. Suddenly, I'm feeling extra grateful that I made it through the first time.

    You can do it, Amy.

And you can too, Heather. :)

It's so worth it. It was a real turning point for me, even though I didn't realize the fruit of those efforts until several years later...

but I did realize them. I just took some time off to give birth twice and get those babies in school before I expressed without worry over the expressing.

You've both already done the birthing twice thing, so you are in a fine position to delve and have fun.

Then again, you both seem to already have a finely tuned sense of artistic freedom.

I say: if it moves you, do it. if it doesn't, don't.

You are both already two of the most inspiring people I know.

    Thank you for that.

  5. Thank you, Misha. That is enough to make me log off my computer and work on some of my TAW homework. Like I've said before, "I'll have what she's having," if you've done it, I want it.
