Recycled Plastic Globe: 57/365

I used a plastic clamshell salad container (#5) that held my dinner tonight and made a snow globe.  The picture was from my childhood book, The Three Bears (1977), with illustrations from F. Rojankovsky.  I cut out the shape from plastic, traced and colored the page below with Sharpie, put it in the oven at 325 degrees until it shrunk, then dabbed white glitter paint on the globe.  My only regret is that I didn't have more Sharpie colors and had a chance to take more time with the snow, but it's 11:55pm, cutting it close;)

  1. I think we need to have a shrinky-dink making playdate :)

    This is so creative, Amy!

  2. Your kids must have more fun than any I know. No wonder Houlder and Dell have an artsy side. They got it from you!

  4. I know all about cutting it close, I feel like I'm doing that every night right now! Very cool use of recycled materials, and I love how you brought to life something from your childhood.

  5. I love the illustrations in the Three Bears book, and in many of the LGBs of that time.

  7. Thanks everyone. I'm the big kid in the family! Susie, I'd love to say that my kids just LOVE all the crafts I do, but Quinn is a pretty tough critic, everything pretty much is LAME except shrinky dinks! Hopefully, it's just the age.

There are lots of things you can do with these. Here is a link to a past project I did that includes the instructions and details. Make some, you'll love it! http://greenshutterphotos.blogspot.com/2009/09/paper-bead-and-recycled-plastic-shrinky.html
